Getting to Fiji

Fiji is ideally situated in the southern hemisphere of the South Pacific ocean. With its tropical environment, Fiji offers warm climate fantastic sunshine throughout year. It lies on the 180 degrees Meridian, where the dawning of each new day occurs. Approximately 330 islands make the Fiji group of islands, with a total land area of approximately 18,272 square kilometers. Less than 100 of the 330 islands are inhabited. The other islands are natural reserves.

Area Covered

Latitude: 12 degrees - 21 degrees South. Longitude: 176 Degrees East -178 Degrees West. The two major islands in the group are Viti Levu, the main island, and Vanua Levu, the largest northern island. Nearly 80 percent of the population resides in these two Fiji islands. The majority of the population lives in rural areas and the outer islands. Roughly 40 percent of the population resides in urban areas. Since the Fiji Islands are a stone's throw from the International Date Line, each new day begins on this gorgeous archipelago.

Fiji Travel - Arrival & Departure Airports

Fiji has two international airports Nadi, the principal international gateway into Fiji, and Nausori International Airport, near Suva. From these airports, your will take a scenic 30-45 minute flight to Savusavu, followed by a short shuttle drive through gorgeous Fijian coconut plantations and rain forest before arriving at the perfectly secluded Koro Sun Resort & Rainforest Spa.

Customs & Baggage Handling – Fiji Travel

Fiji Customs operates a Dual Channel System RED and GREEN Channels. This system serves for expeditious clearance for air travelers, as well as arriving luggage, parcels and packages. If you have any prohibited, restricted or commercial goods, or dutiable goods exceeding your duty/VAT free concessions, you must seek customs clearance and proceed through the RED line.

If you do not have any prohibited, restricted or commercial goods, or dutiable goods that exceed the allowable Duty/VAT concessions, you may proceed through the GREEN line.

Note: As may occur in any other country, your baggage may be examined by Fiji Customs authorities at any time. If they wish to check your baggage, you will be required to open and repack your baggage.

Dutiable Goods – Fiji Travel

Fiscal duty and VAT taxes are levied on all goods in excess of allowable concessions. Fiscal duty rates vary depending on the goods, whereas VAT is uniformly applied at the rate of 12.5 percent. VAT is applied on a basis that includes the value of the goods, plus any fiscal duty payable. However, there are also duty-free shops located within the International airport in Nadi. There, you may buy duty-free goods when entering or leaving the country.

Fiji Communications

Most medium and large size Fiji hotels and resorts have direct dialing facilities. Before making any long distance calls, it is always a good idea to check with the resort receptionist or long distance operator to determine the charges for long distance and International calls. A list of charges may be found in the Fiji Telephone Directory.

Please note: The International Country IDD Code for Fiji is 679. There are no area codes within Fiji. Thus, when calling any part of Fiji from an overseas point, proceed as follows: International access code from the country in which you are calling + (679) + local Fiji seven-digit number.
