Adventures

Fiji is famous for the variety of activities available. These include snorkelling over shallow reefs close to shore, diving, which offers a full range of a underwater experiences, surfing an uncharted reef or island passage, hiking into Wailevu Highlands, Salt River Kayaking, riding in a jetboat, playing 9 holes golf, trekking in the tropical rainforests, swimming in the crystal clear waters of a rushing river, or even a visit to a sacred cave?

Complementary Activities

Coral Gardens Snorkeling A short drive takes you to our very own Coral Gardens. Your fully guided snorkeling trip with delight you with lots of vibrant soft corals, brilliant colored fish, an occasional larger visitor, all in our beautifully warm, tropical waters.

Kayak to Bat Island

Kayak across the lagoon to Beka (bat) Island. See the bats that inhabit the island, explore tidepools and swim in lover’s grotto – a cave at the back of the island. Lots of sea creatures – starfish, sea cucumbers, crabs, sea slugs and more.

Rainforest Trekking

Koro Sun is surrounded by virgin rainforest. Each morning we set out to explore another corner of our lush surroundings. Join our staff on a morning discovery walk into our 90 acres of tropical rainforest. Trek under the forest canopy, with huge trees, vines and ferns. Rare birds can be spotted (remember your binoculars!) and take a swim in our waterfalls as a treat to cool off your day.

Fish Feeding

Out by the marina, or in our resort ponds, you can see a plethora of fish, just awaiting that tasty morsel of bread crust. Make sure to ask the resort staff about the eels that make their home in our ponds. A great, fun activity for children (and adults as well!)

The rainforests of Fiji are magical, mystical places. Within their depths lie amazing herbal “remedies.” Your own Koro Sun guide will share with you the knowledge that they’ve gained from their ancestors. Which leaf used to cure a stomachache, which root will treat diabetes, what bark stops a headache in its tracks? The wonders of nature unfold for you!

9 Hole Golf

Join our pro, Vijay Gounder, for a challenging round of 9-hole golf.  The golf course takes you throughout our pictorial property and  offers stunning views. Vijay will gladly offer his expertise and insight, as well as lessons for those who are interested in starting a new sport.

Coconut Demonstration

Known in Fiji simply as the “tree of life” the coconut is a life-sustaining tree in the islands. Every bit of the plant is used – from the roots, to the bark, to the nut. Your guide will explain the importance these towering trees have for the Fijian people, and you can join in on coconut grating (and tasting!), weaving hats and baskets, and watch your guide nimbly climb up these beautiful giants.

Fiji History, Myths & Legends

We are a land of rich history and ancestral ties. Our story started 3,000 years ago, when the first Fijians landed on our shores, and called “Viti” home. Trace the footsteps of our brave forefathers, brought to life by your Koro Sun storyteller.

Cycling the Hibiscus Highway

Hop on a mountain bike and enjoy the ride! Your guides will take you down the scenic Hibiscus Highway. You can enjoy a more leisurely exploration of the scenic coastline you only glimpsed from your passing vehicle. Go for a short trip, or a long excursion – but be sure to check out the Namale Blowholes along the way.

Market Day in Savusavu

Saturday is market day. It’s a bustling time, when locals shop for fresh fruits and vegetables at the municipal produce market “downtown.” Check out the variety of mangoes, papayas, root crops, then stop at the fish market to see what the “catch of the day” will be. You may enjoy stopping at a fresh fruit juice bar, or checking out the souvenir shops for Fijian handicrafts and artifacts. $7 FD per person.

Lovo & Meke

Each week we feature a “lovo” and “meke” night. Lovo is an underground oven, and you can watch from the preparation stages until it is “unearthed” and table ready. This is followed by a song and dance celebration, a Fijian meke, where colorful fan dancers and club carrying warriors re-enact Fiji’s history.

Sunday Church Service

The melodious Fijian voices raised in celebratory song is an experience that will touch your very soul. Check with the front desk to schedule a seat in the van. Please also note that a collection plate is passed during the service.

Kayak and Snorkel

Take a kayak out and paddle around Koro Sun Lagoon. Bring along your snorkeling gear and jump in at points along your trip, and watch the underseas world come alive before your eyes!

Black Pearl Farm Tour

Owned by marine biologist Justin Hunter, Savusavu’s black pearl farm is one of the pride’s of Fiji. Tour the various stages of oyster development, and make sure to bring a mask and goggles so you can see, close up, the rowas of underwater oysters. Stopping back at the showroom is a temptation as these pears are truly the gems of the South Pacific. $35 FD per person

Salt River Kayak Trip

The easiest way to paddle – downstream both ways! We follow the tides, so you never have to fight the current.  A 15 minute ride takes us to the “put in” spot on the river. With the incoming tides, paddling upriver is easy – just let the gentle ocean currents guide you.

We arrive at the island’s largest salt lake, where exploring its tranquil beauty is compulsory. Your guides entertain with legends of the area, and tales of the Fijian god of the ocean, who guards the lake entrance.  As the tides turn, we “go with the flow” and head downriver towards the ocean, where your private van awaits to take you “home.”

Waterfall Tour

(by bike, by kayak, by foot) A cool, refreshing and spectacular treat!  The Nakasa Waterfall is hidden atop Fiji’s verdant hillside, with crystal clear waters and swimming pool just ready for you to take the plunge.

We start in the village of Nakasa, with a traditional presentation and village tour. Morning tea is spent with the villagers, and then it’s on to adventure. Kayak the river, explore the area via mountain bike, and take the 10-minute trek to the waterfalls. Your guides will show you how to jump from the highest ledge for the daredevils, or the lower ledge for the less lion-hearted.

This full day is a bit of culture, a bit of adventure, and a total Fiji experience!
